Blake Shapen transferring to Utah after two seasons as Baylor's starting QB
Former top recruit leaves Baylor amid off-field incidents
Shapen has three years of eligibility remaining to play at Utah
Former Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen has announced his transfer to the University of Utah. Shapen was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and was the top-rated quarterback in the state of Texas. He started 18 games over the past two seasons for the Bears, throwing for 3,026 yards, 20 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
Shapen's departure comes after a tumultuous 2022 season. He was suspended for the first two games of the season due to a violation of team rules. He then started the next eight games before being benched in favor of redshirt freshman Kyron Drones in the ninth game of the season. Shapen returned to the starting lineup for the final two games of the season, including the TaxAct Camellia Bowl.
Shapen's transfer to Utah gives him a chance to start fresh in a new program. The Utes are coming off a 10-win season and a Pac-12 Championship. Shapen will have three years of eligibility remaining to play in Salt Lake City.
