8-Season NBA Career with 76ers, Clippers, and Rockets
Joe "Jellybean" Bryant, the father of late NBA legend Kobe Bryant, has passed away at the age of 69. A 6-foot-9 forward, Bryant played eight seasons in the NBA for the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Houston Rockets. He averaged 8.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in 606 regular-season appearances.
Bryant was born on October 19, 1954, in Philadelphia. He was drafted by the 76ers in the first round of the 1975 NBA Draft. He played for the 76ers for four seasons before being traded to the Clippers in 1979. He spent three seasons with the Clippers before being traded to the Rockets in 1982. He retired from the NBA in 1983.
Bryant's son, Kobe, was one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He died in a helicopter crash in January 2020 along with his daughter Gianna and seven others. Joe Bryant is survived by his wife Pam and two other daughters, Sharia and Shaya.
