Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Swiss U21 international Manuel Akanji from Basel for a reported fee of €21.5m.
Akanji has signed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga club and will wear the number 16 shirt.
The 22-year-old defender has been capped five times by Switzerland at U21 level and has also played for the Swiss U19 and U17 teams.
Akanji is a product of the Basel academy and has made over 100 appearances for the Swiss club.
He was part of the Basel team that won the Swiss Super League title in 2016 and 2017.
Akanji is a versatile defender who can play at centre-back or right-back.
He is a strong and physical defender with good aerial ability.
Akanji is also a good passer of the ball and is comfortable playing out from the back.
He is expected to challenge for a starting place in the Borussia Dortmund team.
